In the 1990s Biff Matthews and Steve Scotchmer found themselves with financial assets that they hoped to preserve for their children and future generations. They were managing their capital by investing in proven publicly-listed companies trading at prices below their true (intrinsic) value.
Over time, their investment portfolios grew in size and they assumed the responsibility of applying the same skill, care and diligence previously applied to immediate family and friends, to other like minded investors. In 1998 Manitou was born!
Today the team consists of a diverse group of seasoned individuals. Some have run businesses or professional practices, while others established solid reputations within the financial services industry prior to joining Manitou.
